The Pasiego Valleys (Pas, Pisueña and Miera) are a tourist destination renowned for their tranquillity and authenticity. They are situated in the heart of Cantabria, just a stone’s throw from Santander and the beaches of the Cantabrian coast.
Llanos de Penagos lies right between the Pisueña and Miera valleys. Here you’ll enjoy an authentic rural setting, surrounded by green trails, traditional Pasiego cottages and villages with a unhurried, deeply traditional way of life. We also recommend the beautiful drive from Puente Viesgo to Liérganes, where you can stop off along the way to take in the breathtaking scenery.
The Miera Valley is the most rugged and untouched of the three Pasiego valleys. There are endless ways to make the most of your day here:
Cabárceno Nature Park: Located just 4 km from Llanos, this is a year-round must-see. We recommend allowing 3 to 4 hours for the full experience.
Hiking trails: Incredible walks begin right on your doorstep. Explore the Zamina Beech Forest (30 mins away), the Esguinzas Massif (20 mins away), or take the trail up to the Pozos de Noja, which you can start directly from the house (approx. 2.5 hours).
Greenways and Cycling: We highly recommend the Vía Verde (Greenway) from Ontaneda to Astillero. This 35 km flat route follows an old railway line and is ideal for a leisurely day of cycling.
Horse Riding: In the nearby village of “Arenal” (just 3 km away), you can book guided treks to explore the rolling hills on horseback.
